The other day, I was looking for links to videos of the Cohen & Grigsby debacle of 2007. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this incident, it caused a minor scandel in the anti-visa community. Essentially, Cohen & Grigsby, a Pittsburgh law firm specializing in providing H1-B services to employers, gave a conference on how the H1-B process works. They took videos of the event and were so proud of how well things went that they posted the videos on the web. It turns out that the videos documented C&G coaching attendees on how to skirt the requirements in the H1-B program that were designed to protect American workers.

This created a bit of a firestorm. C&G realized their mistake and quickly took down the videos. But the medium being the web, that wasn't enough. The Programmer's Guild made a derivative video exposing the whole thing. Several web sites put up copies.

So when I went searching for the videos, I expected to find a few hits. I found nothing. Nada. The original videos were all gone. Only the Programmer's Guild video remained. C&G did a good job of enforcing their rights (I guess law firms are good at that).

As part of my searching, I did run across an article that tumpeted C&G's winning of the 2010 Springer Professionalism Award. Maybe what-goes-around-doesn't-come around...
