I graduated with a BS in electrical engineering in 2007 and I applied for over 200 jobs and did not even land an interview.
Am I doing something wrong? No, I have a professionally written resume but I have no experience.
So is a college degree worthless without experience?
But some come here on student visas and are landing jobs right and left. How is this possible?
I am completely dumbfounded!
A company is willing to hire student visas and take them through the whole H1b sponsoring program but they won't hire me, a citizen.
After talking to few of them I found out that they simply lie on the resume but indeed they are smart enough to pass the interview. (or they network to get interview questions)
Everyone talks about IT only, but electrical engineering is a field that is overwhelmed with the same problem.
Personally, granting so much student visas has a direct impact on people like me and other american citizens because I seriously think sometimes.. may be I should have majored in something else.
For God's sake..don't just give them jobs here.. make them go back and then apply for a H1b from India and come in again.
The student visa short cut to stay in this country is killing our youth. No one wants to hire me because I'm honest and I say.. I've done projects but I don't have any experience.
Should I start putting fake shit on my resume to get hired?
(that's a redundant question to make one think)
Also, any graduate electrical engineering classroom is
70% east indian, 15% chinese/viet, 5% other and 10% white.. Not that it matters, but here is the first hand information!!
