Tell me this isn't a case of massive corruption. The New York Board of Education is firing it's American I.T. staff, earning an average of $65k a year, in order to bring in foreign labor under H-1B guest worker Visas via a no-bid contract. The cost for each H-1B, who probably have less training and experience, than the Americans: $250,000 a pop!

Schools Chancellor Joel Klein to fire low paid Americans, replace them with no-bid contract H-1Bs:

On Monday, the city's education policy board approved a new four-year, $54 million computer contract with Future Technology Associates.

Before Monday, Florida-based FTA had a no-bid contract to supply 63 consultants to the Department of Education at an average annual cost of $250,000 apiece.

Under the new contract, FTA will supply up to 10 additional consultants this year at the same $250,000 average price tag.

Amazingly, the DOE issued pink slips in the past few days to 14 of its computer department employees. Average pay for those workers is a mere $65,000.

"Our workers are capable of doing those FTA jobs, so why is the city laying them off and paying three or four times more for outside consultants?" said one leader of District Council 37, the city employees union.

This is clearly a case of outright corruption and probably fraud.

It obviously makes no sense to fire their I.T. staff and then pay the absurd amount of $250,000 dollars to use a H-1B imported worker.

This should be investigated by the New York Attorney General for obvious corruption, fraud and abuse. Why in God's name would FTA even get a no-bid contract (unless payola and so on is involved?)
