NBC/WSJ Study Shows Americans Against Free Trade & Amesty

It must have been a real blow to the long time free trade advocating Wall Street Journal to discover after all these years of globalist propaganda the results of their survey have stayed so consistently negative. 47% of Americans think free trade has hurt the US. Only 23% say, "yippee, take our jobs". The rest like football. Not that I don't, but wake up, people!

American attitudes toward the free trade agreements have definitely become more polarized. In 1999 only 35% thought these were the source of that great sucking sound. In 2010 53% correctly identified these agreements as a major sap on our national might. Also, 53% oppose amnesty for illegal workers.

I wonder if any politicians are listening? At least their great propaganda rag the WSJ didn't go so far as to publish these numbers, though they did make the mistake of putting a link to the study where I could find it. My apologies for the no-so-great formatting. I'm a blog rookie, what can I say?

What government does vs. what people want

It's absolutely ridiculous. I heard today the GOP claim that deficits and taxes are causing the unemployment rate. They just say bold face lies and repeat those lies like drones...

Meanwhile Democrats are trying to pass "amnesty" under the Dream Act..

neither party will take on trade, or do something obvious like ban the offshore outsourcing of Federal Contracts.

Government for Hire

Yes and why does our government look out for the best interests of China before those of its own? Because China has a better lobby than Joe Middle America. China has spies, whores, cash, whatever they need to turn our "leaders" to their ends. China has all the resources of a major country with which to influence our "representatives". This is why I've said all along, the only way to get the federal government back under control is to repeal the 16th amendment. That single amendment totally threw off the balance of power between the state and federal governments as it had been set up in the original US Constitution. It gave them a ready and relatively voiceless source of money other than tariffs and made all the economic devastation we see now possible.

Prior to the 16th amendment the federal government had their own lust for power to balance against the lobbying powers of foreign governments. As it is now, the population of the US is fairly easily manipulated by propaganda, thus we have little voice in Washington DC and are basically tax fodder for a federal government that belongs to foreign interests.

Another Study Confirms the Unpopularity of "Free Trade"

A just published Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor poll shows much of the same results as the WSJ poll I cited earlier. One area where the media propaganda has had an effect is on the popularity of tariffs.

62 percent to 34 percent, those surveyed said they would support a government agenda designed to promote advanced manufacturing "with tax incentives, funding for scientific research, and funding for … training." That option was considerably more popular than an approach aimed at reviving manufacturing through higher tariffs (51 percent supported that strategy, and 45 percent opposed it.) As in an earlier Heartland Monitor survey, targeted government intervention was most popular among minorities and college-educated whites -- two groups that don't often agree.

While tariffs are still popular with 51% of Americans, they trail direct government meddling by 11%. One might ask, if the Chinese government can do it why can't the US government successfully direct our economy? There are two answers to that question. First, the Chinese government uses tariffs among other things as a means of protecting their markets. Second, when I worked on space station as it transitioned from being "Space Station Freedom" to "Space Station Russia" we had a saying, "their socialists are better than our socialists". By then we were pretty much assured that if our government continued to "support" us, the space station would never get built. With the Russian's guidance, it would be a far poorer product, but it would at least reach orbit.
