NASSCOM To Indian Government - Save Our Business Model of Cheap Labor
This is precious. NASSCOM, the Indian lobbying organization, is demanding the Indian Government give government aid to BPOs.
On how the government could help the sector, Mittal said, “This government has to look at growth and see how we are going to have sustained advantage for the economy. The IT and BPO sectors have been one that has led to economic activity. We have been one of the largest employers in organised sector.”
Bhasin’s take: “To maintain India’s competitiveness and to maintain the growth of employment opportunities, the industry needs help today. It is facing competition from many countries; it is facing quasi-protectionism from its customer-based countries. It is seeing increasing costs in terms of the cost the industry has to bear, which it shouldn’t have to bear. Training costs, transportation costs, power costs, security costs, these are all costs we bear as an industry. These are public services that should be delivered. Consequently, I think there is a very strong case for the extension of STPI.”
BPO is an industry sector where the business model is pretty much all about displacing workers in other countries. BPO means Business Process Outsourcing.
Absolutely hilarious and absurd while NASSCOM complains of protectionism, they are demanding subsidies and other Government aid!
Uh, I believe government subsidies and aid really is protectionism! Having a glorified wage slave business model go bust is not!
