I.T. Job Satisfaction at all time low - only 4% "highly engaged"

A new job survey shows only 12% of I.T. workers are actively engaged and will jump ship at the first sign of a better opportunity.

In 2007, about 12% of the IT employees fit in category of "highly engaged" workers, but that has since fallen to 4%.

This means they will go the extra mile to help out a project. No surprise here. Considering how badly STEM are treated on the job and then only to have to train their replacement and be offshore outsourced, who wants to put in anything beyond grabbing that paycheck.

When the economy starts to head in the right direction, the employees are going to vote with their feet.

So a whole lot of people aren't quitting due to the unemployment rate and as soon as that improves, they are out of there.

Of course with unlimited foreign workers and offshore outsourcing, employers can continue to treat people badly and wage repress.

Fortunately for employers...

The economy isn't likely to improve any time soon. It is my belief that globalism, including offshore outsourcing, and onshore insourcing (i.e. guest workers), are the cause of our economic woes. Things will only continue to get worse, as we repeatedly shoot ourselves in the foot.
