Finally, a State saves money by hiring Americans and getting rid of H-1Bs

Ya all may blast New York Governor Patterson, but here is (finally) some good news coming out of New York State. They are dumping their H-1B guest workers and corresponding contracts and hiring I.T. workers, Americans, directly on the State payroll.

Patrick Thibodeau has the story:

New York State has embarked on a plan to shift a number of jobs filled by IT contractors and consultants to the state payroll as part of an effort to save millions of dollars.

As many as 500 new state IT jobs may be created under a new in-sourcing program that was recently approved by the legislature and backed by Gov. David Patterson.

This law creates "term appointments" for state IT workers, which strip away some hiring and firing rules that apply to permanent workers. The maximum tenure for "term appointments" is five years.

Now here is the obvious. New York isn't doing this as any favor to U.S. workers, they are doing it to save money. Up to $15 million dollars to be exact.

The state estimates that it can save approximately $25,000 annually for each contracting position that is shifted to the state payroll. The annual savings is pegged at as much as $15 million, but that estimate is contingent on whether the contracted positions can be replaced.

Folks, you might write your State and Local government officials and point this out. Why, when there are over 14 million people needing a job, are States spending more money using foreign guest workers instead of hiring Americans?

Talk about a Stimulus, anyone with a 2nd grade education knows it makes sense to hire Americans for government jobs.

Somewhat heartening. We need

Somewhat heartening. We need a lot more of this.

we need 8 million jobs

So everyone, in every state should be writing their state and local officials and demanding similar action. Not only does it save the state a hell of a lot of money, but it would employ Americans.

So obvious and obviously so corrupt more states do not do what New York just did.
