Carly Fiorina for U.S. Senate? NOT!
Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has deployed website www.carlyforcalifornia.com in her possible challenge to Senator Barbara Boxer's U.S. Senate seat. I have created opposition site www.carlyforcalifornia.INFO that summarizes why she might not be qualified to represent the interests of the U.S., and of U.S. citizens.
I was an HP employee when Carly was hired as CEO. Back in junior college I had selected my major "electronic computer technology" based largely on the news that HP was breaking ground in Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento. You can read more info on this page: www.carlyforcalifornia.info/whoarewe.html
Note: The image is a joke - relax. Is it any more offensive than ordering the extermination of the careers of 10,000 Americans as you fly around in your Gulfstream private jet?
WHY NOT CARLY?
This December 2002 Forbes Magazine article is still active: The New HP Way: World's Cheapest Consultants - "We're trying to move everything we can offshore." - HP Services chief Ann Livermore ... HP figures a good high-end programmer in India costs about $20,000 a year, about a quarter the U.S. cost. And things could get even cheaper. "We see China gaining on India about three or four years from now." Livermore, with the blessing of Chief Executive Carly Fiorina, is betting that HP can both lower its costs and damage industry leader IBM by slashing services prices with cheaper bodies.
While HP was undergoing massive layoffs, she approved the lease of two new Gulfstream IV jets, and took endless trips to socialize with Hollywood movie stars and politicians, trips that could be justified as fortifying the benefits of one's political career, not those of shareholders and of HP. Under Hewlett-Packard's severance agreement, Carly Fiorina received US$14 million in cash, which was 2.5 times her base salary and target bonus. HP also paid her US$5.88 million under its 2003-2004 long-term performance cash program, and US$1.5 million, which was the pro-rated amount of her awards under the 2004-2005 program. Her total severance package was estimated to total US$42 million. (Source: [1])
Fiorina once stated to Congress that "There is no job that is America's God-given right anymore." This is not the company that Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard envisioned. This is corporate greed gone mad.
